What is the best car in the world? It is a question which many car enthusiasts have debated for many years. Each year new cars are put into production which renew that debate. Before the McLaren F1 was released in 1992, most petrol heads would probably have regarded Ferrari as the world's premier fast car manufacturer. But then the F1 set the world record for fastest road car and the terms of the debate changed. Of course, not everyone regards speed as the most important attribute of a car when deciding which is the best in the world. Some prioritize comfort, while others look to fuel efficiency and value for money.

There are several premium car brands which focus on two things- speed and comfort. Some of these are focused exclusively on these attributes while others also manufacture more affordable vehicles. For example, Ford design and manufacture a premium line of vehicles including the Mustang and GT, but they also make family friendly models like the Focus and Fiesta. It is this diversity which makes them one of the biggest automotive brands in the world. But some car fans prefer the purity of a brand which is only interested in making fast cars.

Aston Martin, McLaren, Ferrari, Maserati, Bugatti, Pagani and Porsche. These are just some of the car makers which focus on speed as their defining mission and guiding light in how to manufacture cars. Deciding on which is the best supercar based purely on speed is perhaps too simplistic for most people. But it must be considered in any objective assessment. While many peoples' favourite cars are based on subjective factors such as design and comfort, greater speed is what distinguishes cars from horses and if it weren't for the advances in speed signified by the advent of motor vehicles, we might still be riding around on horses!

Therefore, I will base the ranking of the three greatest cars ever made on three factors, each given a different weighting. The first dimension which the cars ranking will be based on is design quality and attractiveness. Because this will be considered a subjective measure by most people, I will give this a lower weighting than the other two attributes. It will be given a weighting of 2 out of 10. The second dimension will be efficiency and maintenance costs. This is an objective measure and so it will be given a weighting of 3 out of 10. Finally, the speed dimension will be given a weighting of 5 out of 10, reflecting the defining nature of speed in regards to automobiles.

In third place is the Bugatti Chiron. With a top speed of 261 mph, this car was named after the legendary centaur in Greek mythology. It is considered by many as an improvement on the Veyron and this is reflected in increased acceleration and top speed.

In second place is the Hennessey Venom GT, with a top speed of 270 mph. Although there is some debate about this car qualifying as a production car because it is hand built, it is undoubtedly one of the fastest cars in the world and is stunningly designed.

Finally, in first place and our winner of the best car in the world is the Koenigsegg Agera RS. Clocking up an astonishing 278 mph, it edges ahead of the Venom on both speed and looks.
